Grade Six Mathematics
From 5B
We can then multiply the consequent number by 3 to find the unknown quantity:
Therefore, 6 x 3 = 18
Hence, if there are 12 blue sweets, there will be 18 pink ones (or 12:18)
To find the total number of sweets, we need to add both sides of ratio 12:18.
12 + 18 = 30
Therefore, there are 30 sweets in total in the bag
Let’s now apply the knowledge we have learned by calculating the following unknown quantities.
Exercise 3
1. The ratio of boys to girls is 3 to 2. If there are 12 boys, how many girls are there?
2. It takes one Super Giant Pizza to feed 3 people. If you invite 36 people, how many pizzas will you need?
3. Gavin has nickels, dimes, and quarters in the ratio of 8 : 1 : 2. If 30 of Gavin’s coins are quarters, how many nickels and dimes does Gavin have?
4. Curtis School has 1,575 students. The student to teacher ratio is 15 to 1. How many teachers are at Curtis School?
Great job, boys and girls!
That’s all for today. For the solutions to this week’s problems, check back next week.
Until next week, goodbye, and stay safe!
